The Ford Motor Company has long been regarded for its tendency to watch the future, which is why it is totally understandable Ford dove into the robotics industry. A press release recently announced that Ford has partnered with the exquisite brains at the University of Michigan on the state-of-the-art 13,400 sq.-ft. Ford Robotics Building, which the staff at Wiscasset Ford is really looking forward to visiting. The press release states that the four-story building cost an astonishing $75 million and was made to “emphasize how robotics can create a more equitable society.” This is done through efforts between underserved university students with an interest in robots and Ford roboticists, like autonomous vehicle researchers.

Engineering the Future
According to the press release, classrooms with remote access have already been put together within the vast Ford Robotics Building, as well as see-through glass-wall laboratories for guests to check out the different experiments being conducted. The Blue Oval brand’s roboticists are located on the complex’s fourth floor, where they work with University of Michigan researchers on initiatives involving artificial intelligence, disaster response, and even greater levels of wilderness exploration. Other projects are testing “legged” robots, efficient prosthetics, advanced drone research, and even self-operating automobiles!
